Street Tree Survey

The Village of East Aurora has completed a village-wide street tree inventory.   This website was designed to present the findings of the tree survey to the public.  The survey data is stored in a Geographic Information System that will allow the community to visualize, measure, map, analyze and present information on Village trees.  The inventory includes information on: tree species, tree size (measured as diameter at breast height), tree condition and available tree sites.  This information provides a comprehensive assessment of the present condition of the street trees in East Aurora.  With these results as a baseline,  a plan for future management of the trees will be developed.

The tree data was collected by the forestry consultants Bruce Robinson, Inc during the summer of 2001.  The software for the Geographic Information System is ArcView 3.2.  Guidance on the software system and assistance with data input were provided by Ecology & Environment, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Erie Community College.

Funding for this project was made possible by:  the Village of East Aurora, the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, the East Aurora Rotary Club, and the East Aurora Chamber of Commerce Tourism Task Force.
