Use a Home Escape Plan

Fires occur in the home when you least expect it, often while you are asleep. When the fire occurs you must react quickly for your own safety and the safety of others. The most important part of fire prevention is home fire planning. The second is immediately calling 9-1-1 to reach the fire department. Include all members of your family in the planning process. Find at least two routes out of your home from each bedroom. Make sure that you feel any closed door before opening it and don't stop for pets or other favorite things. Get out of the house quickly. Be sure to draw a map so that everyone can see the plan. Choose a meeting place outside so that you know that everyone is out of the house. If someone is missing do not re-enter the house. The firefighters can quickly search for one person but two missing people make the job very difficult.
